Stephen Bunting bravely bowed out at the quarter-final stage of the Nordic Darts Masters after a 6-2 defeat to Rob Cross.

Rewarded for his maiden PDC major title at the Masters in January, the Bullet was called up for World Series action in Copenhagen.

And it was an edgy opening for Bunting who finally managed to get over the line against Daniel Larsson on day one of action.

Hunting for another piece of silverware for his mantelpiece, the former Lakeside Champion struggled to get into gear against the Swede but eventually secured the all decisive final leg to advance.

After losing his advantage with the darts, first blood went to the Scandinavian before Bunting found his feet and took a 3-1 lead which subsequently became 5-2

However, the Liverpudlian was unable to shake Sweden’s World Cup of Darts veteran off and wasted opportunities on the outer ring allowed Larsson to claw the deficit back and take it to a decider

Thankfully, with darts in hand, Bunting was able to use that advantage to sneak over the line and grab the honours 6-5.

It was a much better scoring version of the Bullet in the next round against Rob Cross but despite a ton average, Voltage tipped the scales at slightly above that figure to run out a comfortable 6-2 victor.

After the tournament, Stephen said: “First of all, I want to thank the PDC for giving me this wonderful opportunity.

“To be selected for the World Series of Darts is an honour and I am thrilled my performances of late were recognised with this call up.

“For some reason, I couldn’t get going against Daniel [Larsson] in the first match but delighted to get the win. Perhaps nerves played a part but he is a very experienced player and pushed me all the way.

“I felt against Rob [Cross], my scoring was much better but he wasn’t missing much and deserved the win.

“I now look forward to next weekend in Poland as the World Series continues.”
