2023 EUROPEAN TOUR ONE: REPORT

The Bullet enjoyed most of the meal in Kiel as his 2023 European Tour campaign got underway.

It was a nourishing starter, devouring a dangerous Willie O’Connor in the opening round courtesy of an excellent display on the doubles.

However, in this tournament, Stephen will look back on a scrumptious main course where he finally got the better of Michael van Gerwen.

It’s been a while since the Liverpudlian has enjoyed victory over the Green Machine, seven years to be exact. Certainly a dish to savour.

But by the time dessert came around in the shape of Jonny Clayton, Bunting was a little full and the Welshman took full advantage of his opponent’s misses on the outer ring.

Reflecting on the maiden Baltic Darts Sea Open, Stephen said: “On the whole, I enjoyed this event. My scoring was there today but unfortunately not my doubles.

“I have to be pleased though with two really good wins and a positive start to this year’s Euro Tour.

“Even though I struggled to kill legs off against Jonny [Clayton], my 94 average shows that I still had my shooting boots with the trebles.

“I’m now looking forward to the UK Open in Minehead next weekend where I’ve had some decent runs over the years.

“Thank you to the fans in Kiel who were magnificent. I hope to be back there soon.”
